Moving cautiously closer, we eventually noticed that there was a very well-concealed sharpshooter in the dacha's attic. We retrieved the 'flag' Pacer had given us to signal his brother, but received no reply. Andriy's squat turned out to be located in a mostly-empty field, dotted with a wrecked truck, some sparse trees (fallen and otherwise), and the occasional bush or rock. The night passed without further incidence, and we moved on to the dacha. Damsel gave surprisingly heartfelt thanks, this being her second near-death experience at the maw of a bloodsucker. We bedded down in the shallow cave for what remained of the night, badly shaken but, through considerable luck, mostly uninjured. Damsel was knocked down and dragged into the swamp, and we only just managed to kill the best while Bird dragged still-unconscious Vlad to the cave, dispatching the last bloodsucker through a hail of pistol fire. However, the bloodsuckers also seemed to realize this and redoubled their efforts.

Our luck seemed to turn when we came across a gentle slope with a small, shallow cave - an decent, defensible position. Though we managed to beat back their charges through uncanny senses not a few times, they managed to hurl Vlad deeper into the swamp, knocking him unconscious we managed to get to him before our assailants. Our group was assaulted by three invisible assailants - bloodsuckers. Eventually, the dogs left, and it seemed our attempts might've worked, but we soon found out why the dogs had chosen to be elsewhere.

The five of us not being fools, we assumed a tight knot and tried to keep the dogs off through opportunistic shots. We came to realize that this was actually a fairly large gang, and they were circling in, slowly. Visibility was worsening, and we began to notice blind dogs shadowing us. In time, we found ourselves in a bit of a pickle. We penetrated the swamps without incident, though our gear - and our heavy suit in particular - combined with the natural stubbornness of the terrain to make passage slow and tiring. The initial leg of our journey was easy, if tedious.

Reasoning that the dangers of the night were worth the cover it provided against potential pursuit, we bid temporary farewell to the Freedom base in the Army Warehouses, the guard on watch bidding us a dubious farewell at our choice of travel times. These tasks accomplished, we decided to set out that night for Andriy's hideout - an old dacha in the woods beyond the swamp, well off the beaten trail. Screw also offered to buy any fine tools we might find in our journeys. Screw charged us the top end at his quoted price range for his work and we paid willingly enough, not wanting to sour relations with a potentially useful contact over a handful of roubles. He did: our helmet's repairs had been finished, but unfortunately they had been by necessity extensive.
